But on the other hand, there was a Pente church in one of the small towns near where I lived at, that it seemed like all the men who went there had beards. A lot of the people at that Pente church claimed to be Messianic Jews except that none of them were Jews, just Pentes who'd adopted a few Jewish things. I think they were basically just Kosher Pentecostals. I ran into one guy from there all the time at Wal-Mart both when I worked there and after (What is it with Pentes and wal-mart anyway?)

The last church I went to the pastor told everyone to not shop at target because they refused to sell nativities, and wouldn't let the bell ringers solicit people outside of their store, where as walmart will allow just about any solicitation outside their store (if it's "christian" anyways). The nativities was a straight out lie, I went into target 2 days later and they had plenty of nativities. I called the church out on it and was burned at the stake so to speak. A girl that went there told me that I should know to "humor" him in that. But he was lying.....and people who don't go there regularly wouldn't know that. And as far as the bell ringers go, Target always donates to those charities, including the Salvation Army, they just don't want their customers to be harrased upon entering the store.
I also worked at walmart, they have a huge following from all fundamentalist churches (at least here they do).

Oh, wait, that's not in the Bible (And Jesus said you cannot serve both God and Mammon) but immorality about money seems to be a big part of the whole Pentecostal thing. I worked in a grocery store for a while up north that was unionized (United Food and Commercial Workers) our benefits and service were a lot better than wal-mart's and most of the people who worked there when I worked there seven or eight years ago are still there. We had one Fundamentalist Christian worker who took it upon himself (against the manager's orders, he'd asked if he could and been told no) to remove the Maxim magazines from the magazine rack because "Wal-mart stopped selling them, they're pornographic." The assistant manager, backed by the manager, made him put them back and then wrote him up. Then he made a point of saying to the rest of us "This is not wal-mart, remember that." When the dude attempted to file a grievance, the union steward laughed at him and told him in no uncertain terms what he thought about it. The UFCW and Wal-Mart don't like each other much.

It was the same way when I worked at wal-mart up north, several people from my ex's Pente church (a few of her friends and the worship team leader) actually worked in the wal-mart where I started at. When I transferred to another store my ex got a job in the store I transferred to, and I'd heard that one of the managers there was Pentecostal...but he was low key about it and didn't act like most of the other Pentes I knew at the time, either. The funny thing was the store I started at had a lot of "wear their faith on their sleeve" Christians and the one I transferred to did not.I wonder...because we don't have them in Michigan...are the Pentes as crazy about supporting Chick-Fil-A as they are about supporting Wal-Mart? (I've never actually eaten at a Chick-Fil-A personally)

I think the Target hate is also social class related, since Target attracts a more affluent shopper and the store is concerned about maintaining a certain image. Most Target stores come off as orderly and stylish

People had all sorts of decorations for their blue vests including AIDS and breast cancer ribbons, lots and lots of buttons and pins for movies, rainbow diversity pins, and religious items both Christian and non-Christian. Nowadays all you see is the blue vests, with the occasional Christian religious symbol. The company used to be hella picky about hiring, and not only expected good customer service but trained people in how to provide it (on the floor, not in those stupid computer modules.) People were expected to treat both customers and other workers well, and while there were some financial shenanigans by the company it was an occasional thing, not all the time. The old man's policies were still very much in place when I worked there. Then I left due to excessive stress and because I figured it'd be better to quit than get fired (my failing marriage was really dragging me down, at the time.)About two years later, I was talking to a former co-worker (in the store, she was the door greeter) and she said it seemed like they'd hire just about anybody. The service had gotten horrible, and the management didn't seem to care. (The store had become a super-center in the meantime) Of course she was old, well past retirement age, so she retired soon after. Another friend of mine (this cute little disabled girl) ended up with that job. I talked to her when I was up there last, and she said a big part of why she got a different job was harrassment by "religious freaks" as she put it, none of whom worked there so the management just told her to let it go in one ear, and out the other. They said they couldn't do anything about it without offending the customers, so she had to be the better person and just let it go. Yeah, that got old, real fast. She's not a Christian anymore, either.

He wanted a down home convience store on a grand scale, like a modern day CVS with a few more items. I do know that I didn't work long after it became a supercenter as it went downhill fast. I think when his greedy children got ahold of the company, they wanted to be the biggest, and the only store of the type. Thats why they wanted to do exactly what K-mart had done. The walmart store closest to our house is the scariest place I've ever been to, and this is the affluent side of town. Whats funny is I only see the type of people that would be on that POW link, and apstolics (you can tell a mile away) shopping there. There is a fight about once a day, and 3 cashiers working means you have to stand in a line with people who look at you like they'd like to take a piece out of your #@!. No thanks, I'll choose target anyday, but I guess I am one of those people who's attracted to target anyways. Otherwise I'll go to a local grocery store. I never did like walmart, even when I was fundie, but maybe I never really was.
