Video of a CNN interview with a "Holy Gospel" pastor lady who was filmed 'excorsizing the demon of homosexuality' on a young man. Trigger Warning! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v9oIuBNx-3A My initial thoughts are "this is super fringe. my church was never that crazy...right? Right?" Unfortunately a lot of what she said in the interview is uncomfortably familiar... talking about 'Deliverance' and her testimony about being a recovering drug addict. She also claims to be an "end times prophet". Then there was the 'deliverance' video itself. Wow. I am so glad I am not in that environment anymore. That is super frightening. I thought the CNN interviewer did reasonably well, considering. He seemed pretty baffled by the whole thing. On the other hand, do you think that even putting this out on CNN is validating what these people are doing? Or is it just not newsworthy since they're basically saying "hey man look at these crazy people! look what these crazy people are doing!"

I remember one woman leaning on the couch while others "prayed" over her to be delivered. She was yelling and screaming. I remember being prayed over like this myself, although I didn't display any great show of emotion or physical response. Even back in the day I noticed the response to deliverance was dictated by the individual's personality. Those that were more emotionally expressive tended to have grander deliverance sessions than those of us who were shy and quiet. The sounds of all that "deliverance" made me want to run away as quickly as possible, which is exactly how I felt even when I believed it was legitimate. Of course, back then I thought it was because I was possessed. Now I know it was my God-given common sense screaming at me. These people are so delusional.

Posts: 370 (06/28/09 12:37:27) Reply Quote More My Recent Posts Message Me Connection Blocking Invite Ignore User's Posts	There was a comment on it from a channel called young turks and the interviewer (a young turk perhaps) really let em have it - and basically said what we've all said -that this can do lasting psychological damage and why was this allowed to take place. My lovely charismatic friend was driving today, pulled up and phoned me to say that she felt totally down and weird and depressed. Now I KNOW it is because she's been having private deliverance sessions, but I didn't get into it with her, because I didn't think anyone needs critical remarks when they are already feeling low, plus driving. So I told her it was her work-load, and things will get better. But in reality, yeah - her mind is being damaged by "deliverance" with Pente ladies. Yuck

Possibly her heart is seeing a way out, that her mind doesn't recognize? Or could she be trying to drag you back? I don't trust them, but they are human, and possibly there is an open door for helping her. Do you think you could come up with a gentle way of pointing her towards the REAL cause of her misery- the churches she's trapped by?

It has happened to me, too -- for different reasons, and it wasn't an exorcism -- though I doubt it could have damaged me as much because at least I didn't believe by that point. This guy does believe, and that's half the damage this stuff does...believing you're possessed, walking into a church in which you know everyone despises a part of who you are, where everyone believes you were so wicked you needed to be exorcised.
