This county is so heavy with Pentecostals ( and racist Bigots)...
In my experience - at least in the particular church I attended in the deep south - they were one & the same. Many of the pentecostal people I knew and grew up around were the most racist people I have ever known in my entire life. As I grew older I began to realize how I was raised and was dumbfounded by the attitudes of the "saints" and the kind of comments I heard on a regular basis. Once I heard an usher/choir member/highly respected man in the church say "I'd jest as soon shoot a n----- as look at one." (He totally lost my respect forever in that split second.)
I also know for a fact that on several occasions people who had a different skin color were approached by certain ushers and told that there was a church down the road where they might "fit in" a little better. This was in the late 90's, mind you.
I sure hope it is not that way everywhere. I am just relating my experience in that one church.
In regards to the car accident - what a dirty, rotten, lowdown thing to have happen to you, Archie. That whole situation does sound awful fishy. Those preachers are nothing if not manipulative. Masters of manipulation...
