searching2- my experience matches yours. Most of the Pentecostals I've known were racist bigots. The P/D/F churches I used to attend were primarily white- and I often overheard disdain for the black P/D/F churches. A couple of the churches I attended had their trophy African-Americans (to parade around showing how "we don't discriminate!") and so on, but for the most part... you saw very few minority individuals and heard a lot of "private" hate speech/racist slurs. Most of the people I did business with in this state (when I had a business) would not hire a minority person for anything but grunt labor and cleanup*- one large business had an African-American on it's engineering staff and the owners spoke of that person being their "Token N-----". I talked with the person in private after hearing the owners go through the usual anti- "quota" rant, and he said that he knew about it, but that he'd rather be token than unemployed.

When it became public knowledge that I was really Native American rather than white... I lost over half (not quite 2/3) of my customers in one month- and endured racist slurs and insults from that point from several others until my health drove me out of business.

And, of course, the KKK and other groups are very active but underground, at least in this area. Some of the more virulent racists I've encountered didn't attend church- they didn't want to hear any sermons that even hinted about "loving" non-whites.

* I listened to quite a few business owners decry the 60's and civil rights- they said that their "N-----s" would quickly get "upity" after they'd worked for the company for a while, and demand raises or to be advanced to a position that required more than brainless labor- and they'd have to find some "reason" to fire them.
