The ones I hung out with spoke reasonably normal (except for the plotting and talk about taking over churches). Some of the students I saw there seemed to only speak by quoting scriptures, or by saying mantras like that. The other students seemed to hold those weird ones in some sort of strange respect.

That seems extremely...odd. My ex-wife could get like that with her Pente-speak at times though. She'd say something in Pente code-speak and she'd expect me to get it...even though I didn't know the code. Usually it was something that made no sense anyway.

He was especially bad about only speaking in scriptures or AoG mantras. What is funny is that if someone asked him a question or made a comment he replied to- most of the time the scripture quote or mantra had nothing even remotely to do with the subject. I caught on about that, but the students at that school never did seem to realize that he was just spouting stuff. He also acted very "spiritual"- his demeanor was as if he thought of himself as some sort of old-testament prophet. Now I think of it as sad and a bit funny (except the idea that he may be leading a church somewhere today is a bit scary).

Yeah....it seems like just about every pentecostal church has its resident "guru"...you know...the "super spiritual" dude or lady who always seems to have a "wooorrddd" for everyone. See...the pentecostal/charismaniac churches today are nothing more than a huge "caste" system divided into two groups....the "haves" and the "have nots" (spritually speaking). The "haves" are the ones usually with the BIG MOUTHS and don't care much about how stupid they look doing all the whacky things that they think is "spiritual". The "have nots" are the regular folks who don't say much. These are the folks that the preachers preach to, and the same ones to whom the preachers call forward to the alllltarrr so that the "orrridnarryy" christians can be "ministered to" by the "special..and anoiinnnted" christians, see? The "altar call" reminds me a lot of "roundup time" in the cattle and ranching business. You herd the folks up into a smaller area, surround them with screaming and hollering super spiritual whack jobs who think they are going to bring about big "chaaangeesss" in the world, and then they "brand" em...with more pentecostal/charismanic mind control for the next 3 hours or however long you can hold out before the stench of sweat and breath overwhelms you to where you have to get out from the "preeesenceee of the Loooorrrdd"..... And over coffee and donuts after the service that night....the "haves" sit around the table telling each other how "Goooooddddd really showed up" how God came yackity yackity yack yack.......While the "haves" are doing that...the "have nots" are trying to get enough sleep so they can go to work the next morning so they can make enough money to "bring their tithe" back into the storehouse next Sunday....when the whole damned thing starts over again..... Blahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh what an awful exsistance!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Henny

I went to Church tonight. Five of us also the vicar and the three members of the choir. It was Anglican Evensong and holy communion, very much of the liturgy. The vicar's brief (5 mins max) sermon was about how the deliverance thing was just for the time of Jesus and not now. (Phew! I thought). And how very few people do actually stay with the Christian faith, and how that was OK because this wasn't about success in wordly terms. God has other standards. (What a relief, I thought) We went through the routine of the prayer, finding comfort in familiar words. It was great. No coffee after. Posts: 44 (07/05/09 13:39:50) Reply Quote More My Recent Posts Message Me Connection Blocking Invite Ignore User's Posts	Another rule or "tradition" they have(Pentecostals supposedly hate tradition, but...) is repetitively celebrating Pentecost or trying to recreate events(still no tongues of fire or international languages occuring in the Pentecostal churches here in my town each time they meet). Pentecost is a Jewish feast day not a Christian holiday. I heard one Pentecostal church (Assembly of God) fasted on Pentecost when it's a feast and celebration of harvest, so that makes no sense to fast on a feast day. The Apostle Paul lamented observance of days and religious festivals by the Christians in the Galatian congregation(Galatians 4). Christians are free of this obedience or requirement of the ceremonial law. The law was a shadow of what was to come...faith and freedom from the ceremonies(including Pentecost) through Christ. I encourage folks to find a real Protesant/Reformed church and know the freedom and assurance we have in Christ. The law served to point us to Christ. Christ died and rose for our freedom from the ceremonial law. Pentecost is past. It's time to move forward.

They change nearly constantly, most of them, but from what I've seen, they're all built around the same basic ideas: Do not think for yourself. Let the Good Lord (read: the pastors and anyone approved by them) do your thinking. Do not think of yourself. Others (read: the pastors and the church) are not only the first priority, they are your only priority. Clearly, if your job/school/spouse can't get it, then you weren't meant to be with them. Do not think that you're any good whatsoever. You are a filthy sinner and it is by the good grace of God (read: the pastors) that anyone loves or accepts you at all. Do not trust yourself. Ever. Any whispers of doubt are just The Enemy trying to sow seeds of confusion. Never speak out if you see wrongdoing. The pastors know what is best. The pastors are always right. Any illusion of wrongdoing is the handiwork of Satan trying to sow seeds of division in God's Holy Church. Smile always. Anything less than sheer euphoria in the midst of a hellish situation is a sign that you are out of line with God. Love is Conditional. One minor misstep and you have to start all over, if we let you at all. You do not matter. Your likes, your dislikes, your hobbies, your interests--all of them have to fall in line with what the pastors find acceptable. If they do not, you have to give them all up and conform to the list. Obey without question. There is no room for doubting. The leaders know what is best, thus no questions are to be raised about their leadership. There are more, but these are just the ones from the top of my head.

I have another one... Be a doormat. If someone in church does you wrong, you are not to discuss it or try to communicate about it with them. I was trying to handle a certain situation properly once and talked to the pastor about it. He said that it sounded like I hadn't prayed enough about the situation and needed an attitude adjustment. We are to show humility. A person who is "prayed up" is not concerned about their rights as a person. I am editing to clarify that the highlighted portion is a direct quote. It goes along with the "Do not think of yourself" and the "You do not matter" thing. A person's perfectly normal sense of "I've been wronged" is turned upside down and turned into "I'm in the wrong". A good little Pentecostal never considers that they've been wronged. It's all about the devaluation of the individual for the sake of the group. Eventually, I think I should blog on this. They are also the rules in the military. They are probably the same rules for any cult. Some have included the military in lists of cults.

I had an experience where I related about a really unpleasant situation to a preacher. I was staying where his church was while attending a special class, and because of a situation I am not at liberty to discuss I was attending his church (even though it was steeplejacked Southern Baptist). He preached a sermon about forgiving - which was meant for me and he said so later. I was supposed to "let go" of the situation and not pursue justice. In other words, let people walk all over me and forget any rights I might have. What happened? I was hit head-on by a woman driving on the wrong side of the road (she cut a corner right into my lane- and right into my car). She totally wrecked my car. The preacher didn't want me to press charges or anything. "That would be unChristian". He stressed that Christians shouldn't sue (and quoted the scripture about Christians not suing Christians- how did he know the woman was Christian?) The upshot of the whole deal? Because the county didn't contact us about the hearing (even though my wife called three different times to find out when it would be- and was told we would be contacted), I wasn't at the hearing and the case was dismissed. I ended up taking a total loss on the car... a loss we couldn't afford. No lawyer would touch it (I called every lawyer within 40 miles- and was either told "too busy" or the more honest "there's not enough money in it for me!") The woman that hit me??? We found out that she had enough money to replace her pickup truck with a brand new truck. She got off scot-free. I think, but don't know for sure, that she went to a Pentecostal church. I found this all out later- after I had finished the class and no longer was around the preacher's church. I've always wondered if the preacher "made some phone calls". He DID seem to know more about the situation than I told (even though he lived quite a distance from where the accident happened). He may have been Southern Baptist, but as it turns out he is (and was) Pentecostal through and through. I thought it strange at the time that he was so adamant about not suing and just taking whatever people wanted to do to me. I also have always been suspicious about the fact that we were never notified of the hearing. This county is so heavy with Pentecostals ( and racist Bigots)...
