I haven't, and I've always been skeptical, apart from a brief period when I endorsed the "Toronto Blessing." Never again.
(Apparently, the "Florida revival" has hit the Midlands in the UK and a new Christian superstar is rising there.)

Recently, there's been some mention of Todd Bentley and the "Florida Revival," and its got me thinking about previous stuff, like Toronto and
Pensacola. Have members here ever visited these or similar?

8 people raised from the dead??? Just one case would have been reported by every news outlet in the world.

Yep, all it would take is ONE person raised from the day to be talked about for centuries by media, schools, other religions...converting the masses....just
ONE.

I've been trolling a pente website, partially to get information about Bentley and partially to cause mischief. Apparently, they're praying to an angel
named "Emma" at this revival. Yeah. Nuff said.

You mean like Emma from the Spice Girls?
She's a hottie. I'd worship at her alter any day

Praying to an angel named Emma? People at my former church would have labeled that "new age," and called it sacrilege, and would have said they were
being "tricked" by the "devil."

Thankfully I never bought into the Toronto Blessing jive. Something about it raised a lot of red flags right from the start. The longer I'm out of the pentecostal-apostolic web, the more i see it for the dangerous mindset it truly is. I strongly suspect that if you took all the error out of it, there'd be nothing left worth noting.

D@mn it. I knew I recalled that name from somewhere, so I checked a site to see if my hunch was right.
It was, and one of my friends who's really into the Apostolic Movement is allied with him and on the CP Wagner train. And a lot of my friends follow his "spiritual lead". When I go home again this summer, hopefully I'll be able to talk a few of them back to sanity.

Look into what that crew is really about.
It's scary.

I spent a week at The Toronto Vineyard way back when (1993 or 4?). It was in the fairly early days of what was happening then and a few groups from my church
went over. I honestly thought the people were really nice, though obviously (in hindsight) entirely deluded. Carol and John Arnott came to our church a few
weeks later and I liked them too. At that point I was still pretty much into the whole thing and we were all going to church every blooming night for
'revival' meetings. However, by the time Cindy Jacobs came with her stories of meeting angels, things were really going downhill and I was fairly
convinced that it was a load of old twaddle.
I don't know the ins and outs of what happened with my church leadership team, but it became pretty obvious that some were more involved in the Toronto Thing than others and eventually it brought about splits, though there were probably other issues too. Before Toronto we'd been through the Reinhard Bonnke experience, and Eurofire (I just googled and it was in 1988... ack) with Reinhard, Suzette Hattingh and Benny Hinn. It's incredible to me now to look back and see how sucked in by it we all were. Again I keep coming back to thinking about who knows what at what level in these organizations. I was taken in. I was 110% involved and committed, believing we were on the right track. I'm certain most if not all of our leaders were. But the guys at the top must know that this is all one big fraud, and I don't get how they can sleep at night. |

I'd forgotten about it too but I was reading a history of the Toronto Blessing and it stretches back to there and beyond. I didn't know that the
Arnotts had hung out a lot with Benny Hinn and that they were all Katherine Khulman fans. It all kinds makes sense now. There was also a horrendous meeting
with Rodney Howard-Brown at Docklands at around the same time.. awful.
