Since 4/15 is on a Saturday this year, the deadline for filing our federal income tax return is extended to Monday, 4/17. However, the IRS apparently honors state holidays, so in Massachusetts and states served by the processing center there (Maine, Maryland, Mass, New Hampshire, NY, Vermont, and DC), the deadline is extended to Tuesday, 4/18, due to Mass's "Patriot's Day" on 4/17. Don't believe me? See their web site! www.irs.gov
Sooooo, the obvious thing to ponder: why can't Texas have a state holiday or two or a hundred, about this time of year? OK, fellow Texans, let's work on it. 4/15 (won't always be on a weekend!) can be Vampire Day. Then Armadillo Day on 4/16. Might as well have our own Patriot's Day next. Keep going long enough, and we'll never have to file!
