I just heard a youth pastor preach a sermon. He went to great lengths to illustrate and emphasis the laws of the Bible that must be obeyed. He broke a light bulb to show what happens to your life when God's laws are not obeyed.
But, It is our emotions that cause us to act.
So looking back at all preachers, they do not want to teach us to deal with emotions but think it is good enough for us to know the law. Were missing some steps here that conversion experience does not provide nor does growing up in a Christian home.
The heavy emphasis on the rules and the cycle of guilt, doubt of existence of God, condemnation (lots of example images for the people on this ), then the music starts and the feeling of being left out, belief I need their love and to belong.
I can't pull this all together and make some sense of it. Must be fun to be the preacher and say " I told you that". Never letting on the way to achieve the obedience was never to be validated or acknowledge as existing. Just promote a identity of against every thing and separation from everyone. Beautiful !!
