I grew up in the denomination and I never heard of her until I went to their Bible College. They defend her, quietly. For example they say she wasn't shacked up with her lover, she was really kidnapped...even though there is a lot of evidence that shows otherwise. They say she made a mistake when she married her third husband and that she repented and went on stronger for God as a result. They say she died of an accidental overdose because she had an ulcer and accidently took too many sleeping pills and they went to her blood stream too fast. I personally don't think she committed suicide because she had it pretty good. Accidental overdose I would believe...but probably with more than just a sleeping pill and bad tummy.

They like to concentrate on her revivals, her vivacious personality and the fact that she empowered women to be ministers. They ignore the rest. I found out most of the bad stuff when I googled it, after I left.

I don't really care what she did 70 years ago. I am more concerned about the bad things that I witnessed that still happen. There have been many extra marital affairs by high placed leaders (district supervisors ect) that are not spoken of or known by the general public) There has been financial corruption at every level...two instances involving two seperate presidents of the denomination. Both presidents were forced to resign, but it was never discussed in detail with the general population and a lot of money changed hands to avoid a lawsuit...again not something that was put out there. I saw abuse of power at every level. District supervisors that hired and fired and ruined lives and ministries for personal satisfaction or gain. I wish I could go into more detail, but the details I could give are only known by a few and I would pretty much give away who I am and frankly after the threats I received when I spoke out last year, I am a little scared to say too much.
