Preacher as God: In the church that I grew up in, the preacher mandated unquestioning obedience to himself. If he felt God telling him to say something, he'd say it and "we" were to obey it. Period. If he was wrong, God would still "bless" us for obeying the man of god. My parents believe this little fascist about anything. What he says goes.

Everything is Bad: You shouldn't be on the internet unless you're doing godly or necessary things. You shouldn't read novels, or books that don't relate to the Pettycult.

Injection of Politics: Bush great, Obama eeeeeeeevil Antichrist.
never understood that one.. obeying the pastor even when you know something is wrong.. taking away all accountability of yourself.. letting a MAN make all your decisions and thinking that you will be blessed even if you know it was wrong.. ??????? Take responsibility for you lives people!

What I keep wondering about those sort of situations is...what if the "Man of God" asks them to do something that's an evil act? What if the "Man of God" asks someone to break the ten commandments? For example...what if he's married and asks a woman other than his wife to sleep with him? What if he asks a man to commit murder, or asks someone to steal?

Does the Bible, or God Himself, have more authority than a pastor in one of those kind of churches? Sometimes I wonder, I've seen a church like that...and I seriously wondered if the people worshipped the pastor!

Odd thing was...I swear that church had services or something going on every night of the week! Only reason I ever went there is, it was a Thursday night and my wife (at that point soon-to-be-ex and everyone knew it) insisted on finding a church service and called around until she found one. The place was creepy. I couldn't help but think what the hell kind of a church has services on a Thursday night...and the sermon was pure fluff...it was like the whole service was pure emotionalism...and the pastor (a woman oddly enough) seemed to make all serious decisions in the place. Oddly enough though...there was a pamphlet on abusive relationships stuck in the Bible that was in the thing on the back of the pew in front of me...I considered all that a sign that it was time to get out of the relationship!
