My old campus pastor was always thinking there were demons everywhere. He tried evangelizing my college roommate (who rudely rebuffed him), and so my pastor decided he was demon possessed.

My roommate was just very angry and frustrated with Christians. He was an agnostic Jew, and had once dated a christian girl who then dumped him because she didn't want to be unequally yoked, that was just one thing.

He was frustrated during our conversations about God because although I tried my best to be polite and respectful, I couldn't help but regard his questions as being silly. Like "What was God doing before he created the world?"

I had always thought this was a silly question. It had never caused me any concern. Years later however, I realize it is not a silly question. If God is an impersonal force that is part of the natural order, the problem posed by the question goes away. If however God is a person with needs and feelings just like us, then it is reasonable to wonder how a person could exist forever with no beginning.

I see now just how frustrated he was to have Christians always wanting a piece of him and how annoyed he must have been at our stupidity.

And my pastor would basically ascribe demon possession to anyone who, understandably, expressed their anger towards him. We push peoples buttons, make them angry, and then we add insult to injury by labeling their anger "demon possession"!!!!  Its taken me years for this to dawn on me.
