In a private email with a family member I asked them what they thought of the church I attended more than a decade ago.  In the email I listed a few beliefs held by the pastor, if not by the entire congregation:

1.) Babies could possibly go to hell, because God knows where they life would have
headed if they would never have died in infancy/childhood.

2.) God hates certain people (there is biblical justification for this, by the way.)

3.) Seeing the creation of the Universe through the filtered lens of the Book of
Genesis's creation story. Earth had a crystalline barrier surrounding it before
Noah's flood and was the reason why people lived to an extreme age. Dinosaurs and
humans co-existed.

4.) Extreme anti-Catholicism. Mother Theresa and Billy Graham were false prophets.
The latter because he let new converts go back to the RCC after his crusades.
Christians shouldn't celebrate Christmas or Easter.

5.) The Government made David Koresh and the Branch-Davidians into a cult. They
were a legitimate church, otherwise.

6.) PhD. was referred to as "Post Hole Digger".

7.) I believe I may have been the only person with a high-school diploma.

8.) The pastor told me that MLK was a communist.

Not to overuse a cliche, but hindsight is 20/20.  Thinking about these things listed here makes me cringe that I was buying into this stuff.  What have you heard in your church in the past that now makes you cringe?

Wow, Red, you figure you might've been the only person there who graduated from High School? That's just amazing.

With that level of ignorance, I'd almost have to wonder if the pastor knew what a communist was...really...not the "I heard it in church" version.
