OH, GOD... the Patience nonsense. I remember that only too well!!! What it meant was that you were supposed to be patient when you were being emotionally/mentally/verbally/physically abused by someone (such as your boss). Or patient as you kept giving your money to the church while being forced to do without at home (and not seeing "God's Promises!" meeting your needs!)

I'm reminded of another thing I kept getting: Don't ask for justice- you just might get it!!! The speaker, of course, had a nice comfortable life with no real problems (at least, none that were debilitating and really limiting or destructive) - and they were talking to someone who suffered injustice on a frequent and regular basis that was life and faith-wrecking.

I think one time I screamed at the speaker - "OK, WHAT WRONG HAVE I COMMITTED TO SUFFER THIS????"

They couldn't answer except to say "But all have sinned..."

That was in the steeplejacked Episcopal church, btw. From "ex-Pentecostals" who were NOT. (They went to two churches- Pentecostal and ours. They sometimes even got caught trying to get people to leave the Episcopal church for the Assemblies.)

I also heard it in another steeplejacked church. Again from "ex-Pentecostals" who were NOT.
