I would say that it really depends on who it is. If it is my pastor, then hell yeah, he'd BETTER be praying for me. That's part of his job, and if he's not praying for me, then we are going to have a very unpleasant chat about Pastoral Responsibility that involves review of the 8th chapter of the Book of Church Order which defines the responsibilities of the pastor to include praying for and with those in the congregation.

I guess what bothers me when other people (like Charismatics or other fundies or even just someone that I don't know well) blurts out 'I will pray for you' is that it assumes as sort of spiritual authority. They are basically saying, "I will speak to God on your behalf." Well, I have to ask, are they the sort of person that I would want talking to God about me? What do they plan to say? I mean, I don't think God is stupid and that He would do something He wouldn't do otherwise because some weird Pente asked Him to ... but still, it's just presumptive. It's like if I said to my friends, "I really need Friday off", and some random person at the next table jumps up and says, "Well, I'll go talk to your boss about it right now!" So it is with the random praying, that I'm kinda like, "No thanks, my friends and I will sort this one out... "
