Honestly, it depends. I believe very strongly in the power of prayer...But as for someone telling me they're praying for me...a lot of it depends on A) Did I ask for this? B) Do I trust this person and C) Do I think they can reasonably well separate what they want from what God may or may not want...or what I might actually need.

I take such things pretty seriously.

I almost never ask for prayer for myself...and if I do, I normally try like hell to avoid asking for something I specifically want...to me that really seems like something a Pentecostal would do. I try to keep prayer requests even for others pretty general on the rare occasions I ask them...and when asking for people to pray for somebody else I only ask people that I trust, and that I know will do it and take it seriously. If the person I'm asking for prayer for didn't specifically TELL me to do so...I always let them know that I did. To not let them know seems deceptive.

Prayers for specific things that benefit one's self or may harm others...seem a little too much like spell casting to me, and if somebody prays for something for me that I didn't ask for I tend to get angry.
