The story of Abraham and his willingness to sacrafice his son has always bothered me. It's only been in the last few years that I have wondered if we have made a great mistake in how we viewed this story.

I have been horrified by this Bible story for years, even before I began to question my pente upbringing.

A while back, my husband was watching a Bible story on TBN with my boys. I didn't know which Bible movie it was. Luckily, I just happened to walk in and see that Abraham was starting to tie up his son. I immediately asked my husband to please change the channel.

Later we discussed it and I told him how confusing I thought that would be for our precious little ones and I wouldn't want them to get the idea from that story that God would EVER have us do that type of thing. The thought had never crossed his mind. I asked him what he thought about the story. His defense was that this was OT and now we are living under the new dispensation. That just doesn't make sense to me.

I understand that this is supposed to be a type and shadow of God's sacrifice of His son Jesus, but it has just always bothered me.

As far as the question - No my parents would never have killed me. Luckily, I was raised by very loving parents. Well, until my father pretty much abandoned us. :hm222 But he was very loving until that point.

My heart aches for those of you who lived in such fear as children.
