Hey, Out2Lunch,

Beach gave me a link in another thread and as I was reading, I thought of your son and that discussion we had on your first day here, a couple months ago (or was it less?) Anyway, we were talking about how it is harder for those who have invested more in time/money and sacrificed more for their religious beliefs to admit they are wrong and come out of their religious chains, even if the religion is abusive. This might help explain a bit about why it is so hard for your son to see the truth, when it is so plainly obvious to you. Here is an excerpt and a link:

Many individuals have made significant sacrifices over time to support a certain belief system where they are accepted and held in high esteem by others. These individuals are the most unlikely to consider their errors no matter what the facts are. The greater the sacrifices a person has made in time and money for their faith will also be the greater unlikeness that that person will ever be able to consider their error. For them, there is simply too much to turn their back on and walk away from. No one wants to admit that their blood-sweat and tears have been a waste.
