Those are some long, convoluted explanations. By their logic, I guess it's a sin for me to tell my husband, "I love you" because God is love. :figureout

It always strikes me as really funny how Pentecostals can get so worked up over "gosh" and "gee", but have no problem with people saying, "Thus saith the Lord"--now THAT is taking the name of the Lord in vain, using it to deceive and manipulate people by making them think they are hearing the voice of God when they are not.

I grew up in a household where we were taught stuff very much like what's in that post above. We weren't allowed to say "cool" either, because it was a hippie word and hippies used drugs. :eek2

Personally, contrary to the expectations of the article I now use the word "d--n" quite freely, except in company where it would be considered impolite. A Pentecostal did once tell me to stop taking the name of the Lord in vain. I said, "D--n isn't the name of the Lord!"
