And then, some churchy person would stop him on their way back to the buffet for the fourth time to say something like, "You know, this is the Sabbath. You shouldn't be open on Sundays. Oh, and are you bringing any more fried chicken out?"
To which my response would have been "...and then where would you be eating after Church?? Do you know how much money I make off of you people?? I have a business to run here! Now only if you'd provide the waitstaff with a proper gratuity, we'd have a perfectly acceptable business arrangement. You know, if you don't like the fact that I'm open on Sundays you can always eat at home, but they you would have to cook, wouldn't you??."

Sorry, but that kind of crap strikes a nerve. I've worked at two different Big Boy franchises, one in a town that had a ton of Pentes. Plus, I've worked at a few other of that type of restaurant...long term Food-service worker here; I've done everything in a restaurant but wait tables at one time or another and aside from the Air Force, a lawn-care business I had on the side, and Wal-Mart that's pretty much the story of my working life. When I worked at the first Big Boy franchise...I was a busser, it was a second job (concurrent with Wal-Mart) I used to *hate* working Sunday mornings.

I never understood how they didn't realize *I* got to miss going Church to deal with cleaning up after a bunch of self-righteous Church People who tipped the servers far less than they should have...and I swear, they seemed to know which ones had a bunch of kids to feed and treated them worse!
