Rick Warren was actually not the first person to state something like this. I've been reading this one book, called "The Family", by Jeff Sharlet. In it he mentions that the founder of "The Fellowship", Doug Coe, first used such historic figures as examples of effective collective power.  

 
What does kind of shock me is...why doesn't this guy realize that there would BE no more elitist or totalitarian government than a Dominionist theocracy??

That's exactly the point I was trying to make. I suppose though that he'd assert that, as it's done in order to bring glory to God, and establish His laws, and kingdom, rather than to empower any persons,it's actually humble, and gives people liberty in Christ. Though, in the eyes of such people, liberty in Christ translates to bondage to what they consider to be biblical law.
