Re: Favorite books from childhood?  (reply)
I like anything Beverly Clear(l?)y wrote. I also devoured the Boxcar Children and Goosebumps series. The latter was harder in a Pentecostal home, given the covers -- mummies, ghosts, werewolves, vampires... I like Bruce Conville for science fiction, and ...

Re: Veterans  (reply)
Bea, wow. Thanks for sharing. The turn in conversation has reminded me of a passage from "The Things They Carried" by Tim O'Brien... it's about a young man (the author) who went to Vietnam. Not the same, but just wanted to share it. Here he just got ...

Re: Veterans  (reply)

Wow... it's surrealism (I'm pretty sure anyway). My favorite type of artwork. That is, along with magical realism. Neat, thanks. Disturbing, maybe, but certainly intriguing.

Sorry to hear this, ericf. I'm going through quite a similar financial situation and know how overwhelming all of it can be. Hope you manage to get things sorted somehow.

I can never seem to get ahead.  (topic)
This post has absolutely nothing to do with religion (pentecostal or otherwise). It's about money and ranting instead. You can safely ignore it if that doesn't interest you. I suspect that will be most people here. I am a teacher. I have a large ...

Yeah, blades are quite a bit more safe now! I saw one old commercial (from the 1950's) where a ruler was brought out so the customer could see how much blade was HANGING out THERE... that one was pretty freaky to me... just browsed and found it...
