My first example is tithing. This was a big one for me I was always taught that this had to be done or else and if I didn't have the money to tithe I would pray for days on end for God to forgive me. One day I found out that tithing is an old testament custom and wasn't even to all the children of Isreal but to only one tribe. I also found out that if you are gonna keep one law of the old testament then you got to keep them all and as a Christian I live under grace not under the law. When I stopped tithing and tried to share this with others oh people got mad.
My second example is calling things that be not as though they are. This example is totally weird and out there but it really did happen. I knew this girl that believed God told her she was gonna marry this certain man and she believed that God told her to start calling herself by his name. In other words at church she filled out the envelopes that you put money into using his last name and even got mail under that last name at her home. She would tell people she was married spiritually to this man. Just weird far out stuff and some people encouraged this behavior.
My third example is about a friend of mine who is HIV positive. People actually told this young man that if he took his meds he wasn't in fatih. So he stopped taking the cocktail and he came very close to dying more than once. He finally saw the truth and began taking the cocktail the last I heard from his mother the virus is barely noticeable in his blood work.
Do you have any examples you would like to share?
