Charlie - This has always been something that irritates me about the pentes. Not only are there people suffering all over the world but right here in the US. Why do they not help those in need instead of building mega churches? Do you know how many homes you could build, people you could feed etc with the money spent on churches that are never full????
Exactly Treelee. This is what happened in the Victorian era in the UK. So we have ALOT of fake-gothic churches built 1820 - 1900, for the revival that never happened, and there is a charity called "friends of friendless churches" trying to find use for them.Meanwhile, in Manchester, in 1844, the average life expectancy was 17 for the poor and 38 for the rich. (taking into account the infratricide problem, which was how the poor dealt with the fact that a child could either starve to death slowly or be killed in the canal quickly.) And all around them, money spent on churches that remain empty to this day. When the writer Mrs Gaskell, suggested this was wrong in her book "Mary Barton" (well worth a read) her name was a by-word for stupidity in Parliament.
