I diagnose, lack of any real creative outlet for these women. Because this "cult" takes away your sense of yourself. Your sense of your ability to be creative..and there is a sort of a power in being creative. Therefore, these women seek power and creativity in the only avenue that they feel is open to them. It doesn't make them less dangerous of course.

You had to remember to bring you rotting vegetables to throw at the heretic on his way to the stake, and then as you watched the "we love Jesus" brigade set him alight, you kinda got a bit of a kick as he screamed his way to hell.

My favourite poet, John Donne, was brought to one of these executions as a child. An uncle was being burnt alive for being a Catholic and another family friend was being "hung-drawn-quartered." He was told, "Now - the Donne family are secret Catholics..John.. and so this is probably how you will die..but don't let it get to you son.."

What is being "hung-drawn-quartered?" Well, they hang you until you are nearly dead. Then they cut you down and lie you on a table, slice open your stomach and reach in and get your entrails and show them off to the crowd. Then they chop you in quarters. Nice? And all done in the name of Christianity....just before the Restoration era arrived and the people got into Theatre.

As I write this Marla, I remember your posting about what you witnessed as a teen, and am concerned that my descriptions will bring back memories. I hope not. It is certainly not my intention and I am still shocked by the fact that you had to witness all that.

That does not sound strange to me AT ALL Lozza, because that is exactly what I have been thinking too. Really. I listen to the History of England CD's by Simon Shauma, and when he talks about the religiosity that led to all the torture, burnings and brutality.....I am ABSOLUTELY reminded of Holy Trinity Brompton and Kensington Temple and all that. Yes.

Also,I don't know if you saw that series called "The Tudors." Well, Sir Thomas More, (executed because he didn't agree with the King's divorce) quite casually burnt a "heretic" because the man had got hold of a Bible translated into English. Ok? And it was depicted as quite a casual, day to day thing. The heretic was tied up and on a pile of sticks, saying that he had every right to read the Bible if he wanted to..... Sir Thomas lit the match, the man screamed, Sir Thomas made sure he was burning in agony and quite casually sauntered off without a care in the world. The last scene is off them man, burning in agony, screaming that it was his right to read the bible. (The church only wanted priests to read the bible back then.)

I watched that, thinking, "yeah, they've got it right. I bet it WAS like that actually. As in "if you disagree with us..you can burn..that's fine."
When I was seeing the Toronto Blessing break out all around me, Sandy Millar, the main HTB vicar, got up and basically said, "if you don't agree that this is from God, then you are reflecting Satan's point of view."
