No, I think he is just nervous. He doesn't do it except when he is preaching. He dreads public speaking (I think he got into ministry more because he enjoys counseling etc, rather than because he likes to preach), and he's always a nervous wreck on Sunday morning, although he covers it well and you have to get to know him pretty well to realize that. He has asked me before to tell him when he gets nervous habits, but I hate making him more self-conscious than he already is. This is one that is only mildly distracting and only people who know sign language would realize that it might mean anything, and even then I think they'd know it was just coincidence and not intentional, so I haven't mentioned it yet. That was more my point to Pamela ... it is very easy for a random syllable or gesture to mean something in some language. To be a miracle, it has to be more than that. (In fact, as a child, I used to play a game of inventing random 'words' and then looking through Spanish, German, French, etc dictionaries to find the closest match to see if it meant something, and if so, what .... and frequently, I would find that it did).

I say this without prejudice to people with TS, though. My son and daughter both have some Tourette's (it often accompanies autism--although interestingly, my less-autistic daughter has more TS than my more-autistic son). My daughter tends to get vocal tics that make it hard for her to complete sentences. I would be fine with a pastor with TS--in fact, like you said, I think that would be very brave. In fact, I admire my pastor for still getting up and preaching when he is nervous and hates public speaking--but it would be harder to do that with TS for sure.
