About what my tongues were ... well, I tried to convince myself they were real, but it was just babbling. In fact, I used to throw some words in like 'Christo' and 'Gloria' to make it sound more like a language. And then I took French in high school and started giving it a French flair. Looking back on it, I'm really surprised that I didn't realize sooner that it was definitely fake. How could it be real when I was consciously making it sound 'better'? www.pentecostalfreedom.org

This was the opposite of what I was supposed to feel. I wonder what lame excuse for a lame excuse the "preachers" would have told me for that situation....

It's not shandalalalal, but they're quick to interpret any strange-sounding words as being tongues. Back in Paris, two YWAM missionaries, Mario and Carla, (who were fond of calling me the European Brat...which I suspect was not a compliment actually...) made me pray "thank you Jesus" again and again until "tongues" came and they prayed in tongues next to me. Yes, I did feel under pressure. Thing is, in terms of just being nice to people, Mario and Carla weren't really. I think it is because they came from Tulsa... They did seem to miss Tulsa, during their time in Paris...which never made a huge amount of sense to me, but then I was just a European Brat.

It's a good size city but in a real sense there's NOT much there. I can't believe ANYONE would prefer a hole-in-the-wall place like that to Paris. Oh and yeah, Charliedog...from now on you are going to be known as the European Brat! (As a moderator, I think this should be official Ex-P policy ) @ Henny...the funny part is the people that I knew from Tulsa were themselves artists...and tended to crack a lot of jokes about where they were from and the way some of the people were. I'm pretty sure they were religious...but they were definitely NOT Pentecostal...at a craft show in Indiana one time we made fun of some oh-so-serious religious people who were also there and not only did NOT show up on Sunday but left all their stuff set up and a sign out that said Jesus had given them their business so they were giving that day to Jesus or something. Even then, non-religious teenager that I was...I knew something wasn't right about that. My best friend...much more religious then me...she had more to say lol. I kind of wonder if those people who didn't show up that day were Pentecostal.

Yes, the TULSA thing. Henny-- what can I say. One eye on Notre Dame, the other on "Mission Praise" and they yearned for TULSA. And back in 1984, you could afford to eat very well in Paris....really, it was a magical place back then........ Post-punk urchins roamed the city, being etheral around Beauborg..and it was only after you got chatting that you realized they were Lord Muckington's sons from Hampshire and they knew they were just having a phase before they went back to the UK, shaved off the mohican and joined the family estate. Having found these young chaps to be excellent kissers, I talked to them about tongues and they made up some for me. The translation was "English Upper Classes still run the Empire and don't you forget it...." Proving that God went to Eton. I'm talking rubbish on this board tonite.

Once I played a game with the Holy Spirit. I had a Hawaiian book and asked him to have me say a Hawaiian word. And I said the Word Ka la and I looked it up in the book and there it was. Ka la means the sun in Hawai. And sure enough Kala is the name of a person. Another word came to me and that was Laveta. Laveta is a spanish word meaning "little one who waters." Oma is another word for grandma in German. So why do you doubt God's ability to give spiritual gifts? By a soft answer wrath is turned away, but a bitter word is a cause of angry feelings.

He doesn't know that he is doing that (in fact, I think it's just a nervous habit to twist his fingers that way), and neither does anyone else except me and my friend who is deaf. So far, we haven't told him--we just snigger under our breath. So maybe our good ol' Presbyterian minister got some of the same anointing that Pamela has. The gift of totally random words that may or may not mean something in some language!!! Hallelujah!!! PS Pamela, PM me a whole BLOCK of text that you get in ... hmmm ... ask God for the language that I am thinking of, ok? He'll know which one it is (Believe me, it is one that is pretty obscure, but I don't want to take the chance that you have a friend who speaks it and can help you cheat). Then I'll tell you if you got the right language and I will post for the whole board to see that you were correct and what message you got, and I will promise to seriously pray about returning to Pentecostalism. Really, even if it's something weird about little grandmas watering the sun, I will. But it has to be a whole block of text, at least fifty words. Nothing is too hard for God, so if you can really get tongues in other languages, I have full confidence that you can do this. Go ahead.
