Does anyone remember this series of presentations, titled "Why Knock Rock", by the Peters Brothers during the early to mid-80's? I remember being sat down in an auditorium at church camp and hearing how all music outside the church was full of backwards masking and Satanic worship.

How awful. I don't know about the presentations you mentioned, but many of the Pentes and charismatics I knew looked down on rock music, viewing it as an
open door to demonic influences. I remember hearing a couple of people talk about an seminar they'd attended, about how the drum beat wasn't edifying.
As for Christian rock, I've talked to people who believe its demonic. I guess everything's out of bounds if you're charismatic or Pente. |

The drumbeat wasn't edifying?!?!? Drumbeats don't edify or not- they're a simple matter of mathematics. Some people need to stop anthropomorphizing
everything. Next thing you know they be saying weirder stuff, like how double reeds are sinful because you have to purse your lips like you're kissing etc.
etc. etc.

I have seen almost every band out there and have yet to see puppy killing, witches, warlocks, orgies, satanic masses etc. of any kind. I harldly even see boobs
any more at concerts, lol. I saw Marilyn Manson and he put on an awesome show! Whats the difference between a horror movie or a horror concert, none. I have
met better, more honest people at a Slayer concert than I ever did at a Goddamned PC church! lol. My friends who drink and do drugs would fight to the death at
my side, every pentecostal with few exceptions would sell me out for 30 pieces of silver! lol. I have often thought of suing my ex denomination. Rock music
does NOT make you do bad things, you will do bad things no matter what music you listen too. Country music is no better but because most PC's will listen
to it you never hear them knock it. O-Z-Z-Y! LOL! I love to wear my Metal shirts around my PC relatives and watch the looks on their faces and watch em
whispering, lol. Christian artists are just as bad if not worse. Michael English, Amy Grant, That moron Carman. Michael W. Smith. They all sin just like the
rest but are given a "free" pass cuz they are doing the "lords" work. I guess Christ didnt die for Ozzy or Mansons sins only theirs and who
they deem worthy! LOl.

I saw Hells Bells a few years ago and proceeded to immediately get rid of some CDs......which I've had to rebuy, dangit!
The thing I wonder about is even if was true who cares if the music is "satanically inspired" or not? If everything not produced by a christian is satanically inspired and they have to rid their lives of any of it then everything that comes out of unbelievers mouth or created by them or invented by them or whatever is satanically inspired and thereby off limits. What does that leave? Not much. No toothpaste or soap or shampoo or deodorant unless a christian produced it. No driving on highways unless a christian built them. No using the telephone unless a christian produced it AND owned the phone company. I could go on and on. |

that's funny, i was just thinking about bill gothard and how he explained the beat and its rise and fall and what that all meant, i think he was
superimposing a sexual arousal graph on the beat of rock music and using that as an outline while the "spirit led him".
his point being that sexual thoughts and activity are being controlled by rock music so if it causes you to sin cut it off. now i see that mind control techniques can also cause impulsive sexual activity so i cut off the church. they teach you to deny loneliness and fear of rejection which leads to impulsive sexual activity according to nathaniel branden. |

The church has been against rock music since its inception. In the 80's, my sister brought back a tape of some wacko precher that spoke at the youth camp
at Redfield. He was so full of crap, but he got all of the pente families scared that rock-n-roll was the devil's music.
Who was the fool claimed that KISS stood for Knights in Satans Service or RUSH stood for Royal Ushers in Satan's House? I personally feel that the reason rock music was blasted by the preachers is becasue the old folks hated it. People often criticize what they do not uinderstand or like. Since they did not like the new music they naturally said it was of the devil so their kids would not listen to it. |

In college, in a history class, I remember seeing a clip of some video about rock music from the '50's and guess who was narrating the clip about the
"evils" of rock and roll? Jack Van Impe! I laughed my @ss off, and because I couldn't stop laughing and somebody eventually asked what was so
funny I ended up having to explain to a whole bunch of shocked college students about Jack and Rexella and prophecy preachers and stuff. Most of them had never
heard of any such things, it was funny, but also a bit of a catharsis because at the time I had just gotten divorced from my Pente ex-wife. The funny part was
the clip was from 1958! I had not the slightest idea Jack had been around that long!

Bill Gothard on anything having to do with sex cracks me up- never-married, lived with his mother until she died, has had women in his organization accuse him of harrassment, wouldn't know what a healthy marriage and family looked like if it hit him between the eyes... And even more interesting, because similar accusations have been used regarding 'new' music for hundreds of years. They said it about Bach and Mozart and Beethoven and in the 19th century, those new-fangled 'hymns'... even Bernard of Clairvaux had some interesting things to say about popular music in his day. There is nothing new under the sun... |

We didn't have "Why Knock Rock" per se, but there was always someone who was trying to turn our ears and our little malleable brains away from
the debbil's music.
We had a youth pastor who wanted to do a record burning..... that didn't work. At all. None of us were ready or willing to part with our records. My own favorite was when he said Pablo Cruise was one of the offenders.... Pablo Cruise? Seriously? One of our youth members was apparently a big fan of Pablo Cruise and told T that he could pry his LP's out of his cold dead hands. You'd have thought we all told the Youth Minister we were pagans. He was most disappointed in us. Too bad. Then about a year later, there was a presentation on the local religious channel on backward-masking. One of my teachers brought in audio of that presentation -- a bunch of us were a little disturbed by it (because we all enjoyed "Stairway to Heaven," that poor maligned ol' workhorse song of the "WKR" crew). Of course, the consternation lasted only a short while -- darn those teen attention spans! 
Another year later, our pastor's daughter did her senior term paper on backward-masking -- and graciously(...) agreed to present her findings to church. By that point, I was like "whatever" -- besides, this was the same girl who had Def Leppard's Pyromania and begged us to hide it in OUR purses when we were in her house so that her daddy wouldn't suspect it was hers. Yeah. Okay. What did I learn in allllll those presentations? That Led Zeppelin was made up of either completely evil Satanic geniuses or they were the biggest bunch of dummies around -- because they were able to fit FOUR different messages (all "Satanic" mind you.....) in the same four bars of "Stairway." Oh and that backward-masking is just another phrase equal to "load of crap." |

I got into the 'Christian rock' scene. I have several Petra albums packed away somewhere (the music is good even if I can't stand the lyrics
anymore) and I think I own all of Keith Green's albums. I played them to death when I was in high school. I played a lot of Andrae Crouch too, but I had to
turn the volume down because Dad couldn't stand the 'wailin' (he hates 'black' music).
I think the reason why I wasn't hearing a lot of condemnation of CCM when I was in the AoG was that they had figured out that there was money to be made in it- a LOT of money. |

Rock... sheeesh... when I started walking away from their form of churchiosity teachings and lifestyle... simple smooooooth jazz was a sin and I was taught to
believe if it wasn't lifting up G-d it was from satan and my mind was being turned over to satan.
now, thankfully I've passed those fears of hell and can relax and enjoy music and those who bring it to me via radio, internet, etc... and I have a deep appreciation for musicians.
