Let's not forget about:
"Dead" churches (usally meaning it's not a Pente church) "Fullness of the Gospel" i.e. ONLY Pentes believe in the whole thing "The Enemy" (I had NEVER heard Satan referred to in that way by a person before I met some Pentes...never forget to capitalize the E either...its like they think* he's after them personally) I must decrease so that He may increase (Never figured out the mechanics of that one...how does a supposedly already omnipresent God increase at the expense of its followers?) He is Holy/He Died for my sins (given as a reason not to do something) * Edited: Didn't catch the typo until you replied to my post, James *blush*

its like they thing he's after them personallyThat's what they think exactly; I've heard a million stories. James
"The most beautiful thing we can experience is the mysterious. It is the source of all true art and all
science. He to whom this emotion is a stranger, who can no longer pause to wonder and stand rapt in awe, is as good as dead: his eyes are
closed."

Rob- I've never understood "Let Go and Let God"- even though I had it yelled at me (or yelled at others) all the time when I was a cult member.
It used to puzzle me so much because it didn't make any sense in the situations I was facing. I got to where I HATED that meaningless phrase.
What on earth does that mean anyway- especially the Pentecostal meaning??? |

walkawayarchie wrote:I thought it meant "don't obsess over [problem X] God will help you deal with it." but it never works out that way, usually the people who say it try to run your life. As for the Pente meaning, who knows? These people have doublethink down to a science that would make Orwell cringe. |

They just keep coming back to me now.....ugh....
"Giving in to the FLESH!" ...i hated that it always sounded like we were a pound of raw meat or something, lol "The end times are near!!!"- "Katrina is a sign of the end times!!" "We are in this world but NOT OF IT!" ......so what are we space aliens?? "By his stripes you are healed!!"......nice thought but didn't really work to well especially when its screamed in your ear! "CLAIM IT"....."claim that shiney cadillac! (blab and grab haha) If you don't CLAIM your healing you won't recieve it"..... Well I just saw Hayley's comet, she waved

I've heard all of these at some point...... But I swear the one that ooged me the most was "Let's all make love to Jesus."
I also hated: * "Leave it there" (meaning at the altar -- which I thought, I can 'leave it there' but it's going to follow me right out of church too) * "The children aren't the church of the future, they're the church of NOW" (oh yeah? Then how come you tell us we're too young and don't know crap whenever we call you on some BS?) * "Saints of God we need to PRAAAAAAAAAY!" (which I always figured was a cover so that the preacher could take a quick breather and figure out the next point he wanted to preach on). And also "Boom boom akka lakka boom boom......." (oh wait, that wasn't a church phrase, that was the catchphrase from "Walk the Dinosaur" -- same difference, though, right?) |

"We live in a microwave world and serve a crockpot God!"
- ye gods, how many times did I hear this one? I made up for it by mentally replacing crockpot with crackpot. "Well, we ougghta have a good service, then!" - said every time if no one came up for healing (between songs and the preaching). I have a couple more, but they're specific to one guy.

blackdog wrote: Ouch. That's nasty, considering the things they were saying and doing at the time. I asked them several times "HOW? (meaning- what do you mean?), and got grabbed and slapped on the head and "prayed over" for my efforts. I never did get a straight answer (or even an answer) when I tried to find out what it meant. They even threw me out one night- they kept repeating that time and time again, until in frustration I cried out "I know, I know!!!" As I was walking out, numbed by the outcasting, some woman cried out that I "had a spirit- a 'know it all spirit'", and they dragged me back in and did one of those famous "exorcisms" on me. Then for about a month, every time I opened my mouth, someone would warn me about inviting back the "know it all spirit". Talk about being beat down and diminished! The upshot was that they thought they knew my life better than I did- and boy, were they wrong! |
