Do any of you know about any churches that have women wear coverings, like these for instance. http://www.headcoverings....eringsOrder2LaceVeils.htm My sister saw some women wearing
something like this at a Holiness Bible colledge, and was wondering what type of denomination they might be from.

The ladies from the hispanic apostlic oneness churches used to wear them when they came to our church for fellowship meetings, not sure if they still continue
the practice, though I'm thinking that the older ladies more than likely do.

Are you specifically referring to the lacy ones or just coverings in general? I know some Baptists cover. Some holiness do. Mennonites do, although around here
you can spot them as they wear a certain type of dress style also. Some non-denominational christians also cover. I used to be friends with a woman who did.
She wore regular casual clothes (jeans, t-shirts) but covered. She used things like stylish scarves or handkerchiefs as opposed to official style coverings.

There's an ultraconservative branch of Catholicism that insists on those lacy veil things. The same group has banned pants for women too. There's links
to a bunch of them at: http://costumes.org/histo...ges/religious_costume.htm

Oh God.... chapel veils. Lainie's right; there are a few traditionalist Catholic women who wear them, along with a few older Catholic women. Back in the
'50s and early 60s (prior to the 2nd Vatican Council) women were supposed to wear them or at worst put a Kleenex on your head.
I'm so glad times have changed. I am most definitely NOT part of the chapel veil crowd! |

Head covering was tied in with apostolic covering in general - that's one person submitted to another. |

She has a daughter with mild autism, and he was telling her exactly what she wanted to hear (like they always do). I tried to warn her off, but she insisted he wasn't part of the charismatic/WOF crowd. I knew he was. As you know, they all have a certain style you can pick up no matter how subtle. I see him on Ken Copeland all the time now spouting WOF garbage. Not that I watch Copeland a lot, just occasionally to test my crapola-spotting abilities. Sorry, got off topic there! |

One lady at my parents' church does that, but she's alone.

It is amazing how you can make money out of these kind of things! I know there is a thriving industry in JW circles for vinyl book covers that match the size
and colour of every book they have. I wonder who makes the majic underwear for the mormons, is it anybody or are only some companies sanctioned?

My family attended an apostolic church for a few years in which all females were required to wear a veil inside the church. The pastor had catholic roots mixed
in with pente, along with a ton of "god has revealed to me" beliefs.

There were only a couple of churches in the area that required people to dress like that, too. When I worked at walmart I'd see those ladies all the time, and could usually accurately guess where they went to church, which always seemed to impress or suprise them. I got invited lots of times but never went, if they were particularly insistent I'd tell them I'd been there before...I only knew where one of the places even was...but usually they were appeased when I told them I already had a church home and wasn't going to leave there until I felt moved by the Spirit to do so. (Never been a Pente, but I learned the code words REALLY fast!) Down here, except among the Amish, you just don't see Christian females covering their heads. I mean never. I almost wonder if covering the head is avoided because there's a good number of Muslims around here? I know Pentes don't like Muslims but I have no idea what their feelings toward the Amish are. Still, if a woman has her head covered around here it's almost a surefire sign she's NOT Pentecostal...as opposed to where I used to live where it was an almost sure bet that she was. Strange, eh? |

Where's "down here," Blackdog? I'm in Missouri where we have several religions that cover, all of which are different from each other in
their dress.
On the other hand, when I lived in Florida the only women I saw covered were muslims, and they were obvious. In 40 years I saw a single non-muslim woman covered. She was wearing jeans, not a skirt, and for all I know she had a head wound she was hiding. I honestly can't imagine wearing a covering in Florida. My hair would stink from constant sweating. |

I used to live in the Upper Peninsula, but now I live about 4 hours south of where I used to live. I moved because of a girl (naturally) and to get away from my Pente ex-wife and her assorted crazy friends. There are a decent number of Pentes around here but most of them are either AoG, go to the church across the field from my apartments (Potter's House, I don't know if that's part of a group or not) or go to the local wannabe-megachurch and try to be the hip and trendy types. There is a large Amish population a bit to the north of us and they are occasionally seen around here. Because of the college there's a good number of Muslims as well, but we don't get a lot of the wierd hair covering type of Christians around here. |
