I wondered how many of you have heard sensationalistic testimonies from people claiming they've seen heaven or hell or been saved out of some horrific past? My Pentec. friends eat this stuff up. For example, a guy named Tim Ehmann and a woman named Mary Kay Baxter claim God took them to hell and a woman named Kat Kerr claims she goes to heaven on a weekly basis and rides rollercoasters there. She's getting hot in Pentecostal circles right now. My Pentecostal friends seem to have no critical thinking skills and believe these stories based on the anecdotal evidence of someone claiming they experienced it. Pentecostals in past also liked sensationalistic salvation stories such as Mike Warnke and Lauren Stratford falsely claiming they were saved out of Satanism. I have two questions. First, do any of you have experience hearing these stories in your time in Pentecostal and Charismatic movements? Secondly, why do you think Pentecostals gravitate towards these stories uncritically no matter how crazy the stories are, even when the person tellings stories seems to be mentally ill and speaking delusional nonsense?
