I had a very upsetting conversation with my mother Saturday. I went to my hometown to take my 90-year-old mother to the cemetery to put flowers on my father's grave and on my grandmother's grave, pull some weeds, and remember them on this Memorial weekend.
My mother told me about a gentleman from my hometown who I'll call Mr. Harry who is about her age who just recently passed away. Now, I knew this man and his wife and children. They were a fine law-abiding family, active in the community, who attended the mainstream Presbyterian Church. My mother had just been visited by her pentecostal pastor, which doesn't happen very often and is a small miracle in itself.
She told me that her pastor confided to her that he visited Mr. Harry on his deathbed and he asked Mr. Harry, and I quote, "Don't you think it's about time you got right with God?"
Of course, Mr. Harry said yes and the pastor prayed with him and another soul was saved in the nick of time from the very flames of hell by this courageous pastor, or that's my mother's take on it.
My take is that this pastor seriously insulted Mr. Harry while Mr. Harry lay dying and poor Mr. Harry was apparently unable to rise up and kick the self righteous a$$hole out of his house!
What ignorant stupid sheer arrogance must it take for this pente pastor to (1) assume he knows the spiritual status of this man's soul and (2) choose to insult this poor man on his deathbed, obviously under pretense of visiting a dying man to offer comfort and (3) then go out and GOSSIP about it, boasting to others!!!!!!
I asked my mother, and I quote "was Mr. Harry an evil man?" She really didn't know how to answer that because of course he was not evil! He was Mr. Harry who coached little league baseball and helped paint the Presbyterian church one long-ago hot hot summer! But all of Mr. Harry's good works, his contributions to his community and to his non-pente church didn't amount to a hill of beans to this fundie pente pastor. The man was not "right with God" because he was NOT pente.
pentes never change..... they are close-minded and ignorant and mean and hateful and dangerous!
