searching2- my experience matches yours. Most of the Pentecostals I've known were racist bigots. The P/D/F churches I used to attend were primarily white- and I often overheard disdain for the black P/D/F churches. A couple of the churches I attended had their trophy African-Americans (to parade around showing how "we don't discriminate!") and so on, but for the most part... you saw very few minority individuals and heard a lot of "private" hate speech/racist...

He preached a sermon about forgiving - which was meant for me and he said so later. I was supposed to "let go" of the situation and not pursue justice. In other words, let people walk all over me and forget any rights I might have.

I've always had a problem with that sort of message. I've occasionally heard people talk about the need for "total forgiveness".

Searching2- astute observation and it made me think about a bad situation we went through.

I had an experience where I related about a really unpleasant situation to a preacher. I was staying where his church was while attending a special class, and because of a situation I am not at liberty to discuss I was attending his church (even though it was steeplejacked Southern Baptist). He preached a sermon about forgiving - which was meant for me and he said so later. I was supposed to...

The rules Ruby mentions here are exactly the same rules for being a Jehovah's Witness, and they are anti-pentecostalism. They are also the rules in the military. They are probably the same rules for any cult. Some have included the military in lists of cults.

I was trying to handle a certain situation properly once and talked to the pastor about it. He said that it sounded like I hadn't prayed enough about the situation and needed an attitude...

I wouldn't know what the rules are. They change nearly constantly, most of them, but from what I've seen, they're all built around the same basic ideas:

Do not think for yourself. Let the Good Lord (read: the pastors and anyone approved by them) do your thinking.

Do not think of yourself. Others (read: the pastors and the church) are not only the first priority, they are your only priority. Clearly, if your job/school/spouse can't...

I don't really think there are rules. They make them up as they go and they are subject to change, bending or total nullification at any time without notice.

Obedience and submission I've even heard of so-called bible teachers saying stuff like, 'you have to obey your shepherd even when you don't understand the reasons why.' Pretty dangerous teaching.

Another rule or "tradition" they have(Pentecostals supposedly hate tradition, but...) is repetitively celebrating Pentecost or trying to recreate events(still no tongues of fire or international languages occuring in the Pentecostal churches here in my town each time they meet). Pentecost is a Jewish feast day not a Christian holiday. I heard one Pentecostal church (Assembly of God) fasted on Pentecost when it's a feast and celebration of harvest, so that makes no sense to fast...

I've always noticed huge discrepancies between what the Pentes say they believe and what they actually act on, or do.
