A lot of the people in that part of the country are German and Scandinavian Lutherans by heritage and tend to favor stoicism and lack of expression. So growing up in a church full of bashful Scandinavians who were required by their Pentecostal faith to seek religious ecstasy through speaking in tongues, well, it was odd.
